Prof. Okorie Ndukwe has been elected as the new Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, at the extraordinary Faculty Board meeting chaired by the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Carol Arinze-Umobi, on Tuesday, June 24th, 2025 held at the Faculty of Agriculture Auditorium.

Prof. Ndukwe from the Department of Crop Science and Horticulture polled a total of 50 votes to emerge victorious out of 81 accredited voters, beating Prof. Caleb Ike Ezeano of Agric. Economics and Extension Department who polled a total of 23 votes; Prof. Josiah Okonkwo of the Department of Animal Science who polled a total of 7 votes and Prof. James Obiegbuna of the Department of Food Science and Technology who polled just 1 vote.

Declaring the result, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Carol Arinze-Umobi expressed satisfaction with the electoral process leading to the emergence of a new sheriff for the Faculty.

The acting Vice-Chancellor admonished Prof. Ndukwe to lead diplomatically without fear or favour as his duty is to superintend over the affairs of the Faculty. The Professor of Laws advised the new Dean to exhibit servant leadership without gratification so as to leave a legacy that he will be known for by the end of his tenure.

In his acceptance speech, Prof. Ndukwe eulogized the teaching staff of the Faculty for the trust and confidence reposed in him. Prof. Ndukwe emphasized that the transition process has ushered the faculty into a more peaceful, focused and purpose-driven unit.

Prof. Ndukwe while reiterating his willingness to serve the Faculty, called for support from both teaching and non-teaching staff towards taking the Faculty to greater heights. The scholar also thanked the acting VC for her immense support to the Faculty in her quest of elevating the status of the institution.

Also present during the extraordinary Faculty board is University’s Acting Registrar, Mr. Victor Modebelu and the outgoing Dean, Prof. Cordelia Ebenebe.
