The United States Mission in Nigeria has issued a security alert, warning American citizens to exercise caution when traveling to or visiting military and government facilities in Abuja. The alert, attributed to increased global security concerns, restricts US Embassy employees and their families from non-essential visits to these locations.

According to the alert, American citizens are advised to, stay alert in public places, particularly locations frequented by Westerners, expatriates, and government officials, avoid large gatherings and consider limiting unnecessary travel and void predictable routines and familiarize themselves with emergency exits when entering buildings

Despite the security alert, the Consular Sections of the Embassy in Abuja and Consulate General in Lagos remain open and operational.

The US Embassy’s guidance aims to promote safety and awareness among its citizens in Nigeria amid heightened global security concerns.
