Authorities in Ogbo-Ogwu Market, Headbridge, Onitsha in Anambra State, has stated that they have succeeded in ridding the market of adulterated drugs, declaring that there are no fake drugs sold in the market.
The chairman, Care-Taker-Committee, CTC, Ogbo Ogwu Market, Mr. Chukwuleta Ndubisi, told newsmen yesterday in Onitsha, that the cordial relationship with National Agency for Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, has gone a long way to maintain sanity and peace among traders, insisting that a lot of achievements has been made since 2022, when they came into office.
Ndubisi who strongly condemned the activities of some 6 out of the 21 members of the CTC, alleged to have been carrying out campaigns of calumny against the Executive members, including dragging them to court, laying false accusations and threats of their lives among others, said that these sacked members were the problems of traders.
Denying the allegations, Ndubisi also accused them of involving in illegal dealings, adding, “We have chased away importers and distributors of fake and illicit drug dealers. We have laws banning sale and distribution of fake drugs”.
He added, “Our members respect human life. Nobody has come up with claims that he or she ever bought fake or adulterated drugs at Ogbo Ogwu Market”, he said, and described their allegations as malicious and false.
According to him, the problem of the six sacked CTC members by Anambra State government is that his committee is doing well, transformed the market with lots of infrastructure, encouraged harmonious existence among traders and in good working relationship with NAFDAC officials in the market for almost three years.
On his achievements, Ndubisi accompanied by other members of the CTC said, “I have been in the market for over 32 years and nobody has accused me of any wrong doing or involving in dubious activity. Our Executive attracted over N15million revenue for the State government last year. Fake drugs estimated at over N420 million were ceased and handed over to NAFDAC which was moved to the destruction dump.
“We restored electricity and now traders enjoy constant power daily. We cleared over N8m electricity arrears owed by the previous executives, employed security men who are paid from monthly levy collected from traders, sank borehole and reticulated pipe borne water and built toilets etc”, insisting that there is peace in Ogbo Ogwu market today.
Furthermore members of the CTC, moved a vote of confidence for the Ndubisi led executive, saying that his leadership is transparent and operating an open door policy.
