The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Chapter of the Nigeria Football Coaches Association (NFCA) is set to elect new executives this Saturday, June 14, 2025, in a much-anticipated election scheduled to take place at the Area 10 Old Parade Ground in Abuja.

According to a statement released by the Electoral Committee, chaired by former U-20 national team assistant coach, Samuel Abimbola, a total of 12 candidates will vie for 10 executive positions in the Association. The new leadership will steer the chapter’s affairs for the next four years.

Among the contested positions are that of Assistant Secretary and Financial Secretary. Isah Mohammed and Osabiku Begin Otiba will slug it out for the Assistant Secretary post, while Babatunde Olufunso B. (BOB) Oluwole faces off against Mary Ochehulunu Godspower for Financial Secretary.

Several incumbent officers are seeking to return unopposed, including Bartholomew David (Chairman), Mansur Abdullahi (Vice Chairman I), Alex Emmanuel Agbo (Vice Chairman II), and others such as Jubril Kenny Yussuf (Assistant Training Officer), Paul Tanko (Auditor), Bilikis Aina Tijani (Treasurer), Lawrence Sunday Ameh (Training Officer), Michael Gabriel Attah (Public Relations Officer), Adanna Gloria Nwaneri Nnah (Welfare Officer), and Kenny Daniel Owojori (Provost).

However, unopposed candidates must meet a constitutional requirement: they must secure at least 75% of the total votes cast to be declared winners, as stipulated in Article 4 (II) of the Electoral Guidelines.

Electoral Committee Chairman Abimbola emphasized that candidates must have fully complied with the nomination process — including submission of required documents and clearance by the National Executive Committee (NEC) — to be eligible.

He outlined voting procedures as follows:

• For contested positions, the candidate with the highest number of votes will be declared winner.

• For unopposed candidates, a two-thirds (75%) majority vote is mandatory for victory.

Candidates are also required to submit the names of their agents by 6:00 PM on Friday, June 13. Agents must be bona fide members of the Association.

Meanwhile, the National Executive Committee of the NFCA has sanctioned the FCT Chapter election. In an approval letter dated June 5 and signed by National Secretary Stanley Eguma, the NEC affirmed that all electoral procedures had been reviewed and approved. However, the national body issued a stern warning against submission of false information, stressing that any such act will attract instant disqualification on election day.

Dr. Gwadale Ibrahim, Assistant Training Officer from Kano State, has been appointed as the National Delegate and official observer for the election on behalf of the NEC.

As the election approaches, stakeholders anticipate a peaceful, fair, and transparent process that will produce a leadership team capable of furthering the growth and professionalism of football coaching in the FCT.
