The administrator of Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area Rivers State, Senibo Frederick Apiafi has advised the people of the area, mostly pregnant and breastfeeding mothers to take advantage of the health materials provided .
According to him, in recent times, malaria has different symptoms apart from normal feverish and high temperature, as headache and tightness of the heart can be symptoms of malaria.
Senibo Apiafi, gave the advice at the Optimized Material, New born and Child health Talk Week for pregnant women, mothers, children, new born and care givers recently , at Opobo Modern Health Centre.
“This programme is for you people and take full advantage of it, starting from our mothers, babies, and of course the girl child.
“Please listen to the health workers attentively as it will benefit you. Anytime you have health challenges, always come to the health centre so that they can enlighten you.
“I will also ask health workers to come to your school to educate you more,” Senibo Apiafi said.
The administrator pledges to support the health sector in the area by providing basic needs in all the health centres, not forgetting the welfare of the health workers.
Earlier, the Medical Officer of Health of the Local Government Area, Dr. Dennis Alege enumerated the benefits of the programme, saying that it was with the view to educate women, most especially pregnant and breastfeeding mothers, on how to prevent malaria and other sicknesses.
He thanked the administrator, Senibo Apiafi, for sparing time to attend the programme and expressed joy over the impressive turnout.
Highlights of the event were the sharing of treated mosquito nets, children diapers, and pads to women, and the administration of blue and red colour Vitamin A to Newborn children by Senibo Apiafi.
Brief lectures from various health experts on some health issues like malaria pandemic, immunisation, and nutrition were also featured at the week.
