One of the leading radio stations in Abia State, Family Love FM, has honoured some prominent Nigerians for their immense contributions towards the advancement of democracy and human capital development in the state in particular and Nigeria at large.

Among the dignitaries honoured with the award of “Champion of Democracy” is the Chairman of Abia Warriors Football Club of Umuahia, Coach John Obuh, who was the first Abia State born football coach to win a Continental tournament.

The ceremony which held at the station’s premises in Umuahia, kicked off with a live airing of the citation of the award recipients including Obuh, the former Nigeria national Under-17 and Under-20 Head coach.

It continued with a discourse on the man, Coach John Obuh by the radio station’s ‘On-Air-Presenter’, Monday Ogbonyemi aka, MC Totori and Obuh’s representatives at the occasion Mr. Igwe Solomon, the Media Director of Abia Warriors, and Mr. Igwe Onuoha, the Head of Administration of the club.

The Climax of the occasion was the presentation of the ‘Champion of Democracy ‘ award to Coach John Obuh, received on his behalf by the Media Director of Umu Chineke.

The award comes on the heels of Coach John Obuh’s outstanding record in the two seasons he has held sway as the Chairman of Abia Warriors.

His first season as the club’s Supremo saw Abia Warriors reach the 2024 President Federation Cup final for the first time in the club’s history., and the second season of his reign galvanized Umu Chineke to the CAF Confederation Cup berth also for the first time in their history, a feat that bewildered the Nigeria Football fraternity.

Coach Obuh is not resting on his oars as he has enhanced the transportation department of the club by acquiring a befitting Coaster Bus for Abia Warriors Football Club. And this is another first time achievement as the club has never purchased a bus on its own without the State Government’s assistance.

It was a well deserved award for an elated Obuh who thanked the organisers for the recognition even as he acknowledged the collective efforts of his team.

“I am humbled to receive this prestigious award in recognition of my years of contributions to youth development, the round leather game and humanity.

“This achievement is indeed a testament to hard work, commitment and passion of our team.

“My profound gratitude goes to the organisers for deeming it feat to recognize my achievements, and of course, the board , the Management, the players, the technical Crew and staff of Abia Warriors FC for their tireless efforts,” Obuh said.

He also expressed his gratitude to the Governor of Abia State, for his immense support to the club.

“I want to say a big thank you to the Governor of my dear State, His Excellency, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti OFR, for his unprecedented support to Abia Warriors Football Club of Umuahia, which has made a difference in the. Club. Umu Chineke has never had it this good before. Whenever we call on the Governor for support, he responds positively. This gesture has truly encouraged everyone at the club to work even harder to reciprocate the Governor’s benevolence, and the result is the developments that we all are witnessing in the club. Thank you Your Excellency for supporting us and other sports in the State,” he said.

The Club Supremo also assured the Governor that Abia Warriors will be good Ambassadors of not just the State but the country at large as they participate in the CAF Confederation Cup competition for the first time in the club’s history.
