..When mediocrity ruled, ambition was silent. But now that progress roars, envy finds its voice.

In what can only be described as an ironic twist of fate, members of Enyimba FC’s previous management—whose tenure left little to celebrate and even less to remember—have suddenly found their voices, calling for the removal of Sporting Director Ifeanyi Ekwueme. The calls, laced with political undertones and transparent bitterness, appear more like the groans of the displaced than genuine concern for the club’s welfare.

The question on the lips of loyal fans and close watchers of Nigerian football is simple: where was this energy when the club drifted into mediocrity under their leadership?

Since assuming the role of Sporting Director, Ifeanyi Ekwueme, alongside legendary Chairman Kanu Nwankwo, has overseen a remarkable transformation of Enyimba International FC. Under their watch, the People’s Elephant not only secured a CAF Confederation Cup group stage berth—becoming the only Nigerian club to do so—but also preserved Nigeria’s CAF slots against the odds.

In just their debut season, Ekwueme and Kanu navigated a turbulent landscape marred by sabotage, resistance, and underhanded politics, yet still delivered a continental ticket. Their success was not just a testament to competence, but also to resilience in the face of internal adversaries—many of whom are now parading as critics.

The irony is staggering. Those who once had the keys to the kingdom but failed to lift it now sit in judgment of those who are building it brick by brick. They had the stage, but they forgot the script.

Excellence, it seems, has rattled the comfortable. Ekwueme’s professionalism, commitment, and undeniable results have made him a target—not for failure, but for succeeding where others could not. His crime? Daring to dream big for Enyimba, and having the blueprint to make it real.

For a club of Enyimba’s stature, progress should be celebrated, not sabotaged. And while noise may fill the air for now, one thing remains certain: results speak louder than resentment.

Ifeanyi Ekwueme, hold your line. Football history always remembers the builders—not the bitter.
