A faction of the Labour Party (LP), Thursday, held a primary election which saw the emergence of Hon John Umejiego, a member of the Anambra State House of Assembly who represents Onitsha South 2 State Constituency as the party’s flag bearer for the November 8 Gubernatorial Election in Anambra State.

The factional primary election came barely one week after a faction of the party elected Dr George Moghalu as the party’s candidate in a primary election.

Umejiego, who announced his running mate, Hon Henry Mbachu, also a member of the state House of Assembly representing Awka South 1 State Constituency, polled 180 votes to defeat John Nwosu, who polled 69 votes.

In his acceptance speech, Umejiego pledged to work hard for the victory of the party.

According to him, LP will use Anambra as a model to showcase the party’s plan to turn Nigeria around from a consumption to a production nation.

Declaring the result, Acting Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Amb. Sunday Okereke stated: “With the powers conferred on me by the electoral act 2022, and the guidelines of our party, I hereby declare and return Hon Jude Umejiego as the duly elected candidate of Labour Party for the November 8, 2025.”
