Precisely 4:00pm today the Uyo the capital city of Akwa Ibom will be at the centre stage in Nigeria, as the maiden edition of Nigeria Delta Sport Festival (NDSF) holds her opening ceremony, at the Godwills Akpabio International Stadium.

The ceremony promises to be exciting following the adequate preparation of the organisers. The man in charge of media and Main Organising Committee (MOC) Harry Iwuala revealed that there will be cultural displays, funfares and notable musicians like Phino and others will perform.

Athletes and officials spirits are high, looking excited, exchanging pleasantries and friendly. All the the Niger Delta States arrived yesterday.

The Niger Delta Sports Festival (NDSF) a new initiative by the management of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) led by its Managing director Dr. Sonny Ogbuku is designed to celebrate sports talents.

This vision is not in doubt intended to foster the existing peace, love and unity in the region, principally to empower youths through sports.

The event is scheduled to start April 1st through 9th , in Uyo, the capital city of Akwa Ibom State. This aspect of empowering the youths in the area has received laud ovations from youths and other meaningful Niger Deltans, as it will drastically reduce youth restiveness and other social vices.

Of course it is on record that athletes in the region holds the highest record in terms of sports laurels both in and outside the country, athletes from Niger Delta have made the country proud in all ramifications.

Consequently, the mental thinking of the initiators was to ensure that athletes from the area continually dominant sports in the country. Not only that but also to ensure that every youth in the area know how to do one sport and take it as a career.
