Nnamdi Azikiwe University Inaugurates Security Taskforce To Enhance Campus Safety

The Acting Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Prof. Joseph Ikechebelu has inaugurated a Security Task Force to bolster safety on campus.

This followed the successful implementation of the required roles of the electricity task force in the university.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Prof. Ikechebelu highlighted the university’s recent achievements in electricity management, including securing a stable Band-A power supply for the Awka campus and reconnecting the Okofia campus after months of outage.

“We have taken this step earlier with electricity, and today, we enjoy stable electricity. Now, we are replicating the same model with security to ensure the safety of our staff, students, and university properties,” he stated.

According to the Vice Chancellor, mandate of the Security Task Force include;

1. Ensuring UNIZIK remains a secure environment at all times.

2. Advising university management on safety measures.

3. Strengthening the existing security framework.

4. Carrying out additional tasks as directed by the university administration.

Task Force Members

The appointed members of the task force are:

Chigozie Ikegulu – Chairman

Kelvin Uzuke – Vice Chairman

Mr. Chinedu Onyeka – Member

Mr. Chike Nwobu – Member

Victor Uruakpa – Member

Kelechukwu Chukwuneke – Member

Barr. Oge Onyeka – Member

Kenneth Ogbu – Secretary

In his acceptance speech, Mr Chigozie Ikegwulu described the appointment as a call to duty and a privilege to contribute to UNIZIK’s development. He assured the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the task force’s commitment to delivering on its mandate.

The Chief Safety Officer (CSO), Chief Ken Chukwurah expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor for the initiative and assured that, with the right support, the task force would achieve its objectives.

Additionally, the SAVC (General Duties), Prof Au Nnonyelu advised the task force to conduct thorough security mapping, identify high-risk areas, and set both short- and long-term security targets to combat crime effectively.

In his closing remark, Prof. Ikechebelu emphasized that security remains a significant challenge and commended the university’s safety unit, led by the CSO, for its ongoing efforts. He expressed confidence that the newly inaugurated task force would strengthen campus security and create a safer environment for all.
