Grassrunners FC have emerged as the champions of the 2025 Asaba Super Cup competition defeating Defending Champions, Ughelli Rovers FC by a lone goal scored by Bonaventure Lendambi in the 18th minute of the keenly contested final match played at the Stephen Keshi Stadium Asaba on Wednesday, 5th March, 2025.
The competition featured a total of eight teams with Grassrunners FC and African Holding FC who were drawn from Ikenne, Ogun State, joining six other teams from Delta State comprising of Delta Marines FC, Ughelli Rovers FC, Winsome FC, ABC Starlet Football Academy, Ndame Football Academy, and Young Shall Grow Football Academy.
Hitherto, Grassrunners FC emerged as winners of Group A with 3 victories including a 4-3 victory against Delta Marines FC in which Congolese youngster, Bonaventure Lendambi made history by scoring the first hat-trick in the Asaba Super Cup since inception. 2024 Delta State League Champions, Winsome FC, finished second with 6 points, while Ndame FA and Delta Marines FC finished in third and fourth place with 3 points and 0 point respectively.
In Group B, Ughelli Rovers FC, topped the group with 7 points, while African Holding FC finished in second place with 5 points. Young Shall Grow FA and ABC Starlets FA finished in third and fourth place respectively with 2 points and 1 point, respectively.
The colourful competition which had all the matches streamed live on Asaba Super Cup YouTube Channel was backed by top European football agency, SPOCS consulting; a leading global live sports reporting app, Sofascore; one of Africa’s leading football performance data analytics platform, Afriskaut; a growing digital ticketing app, FunZ and bankrolled by top sports lawyer, Elo Adhekpukoli.
In an interview with sports journalists after the grande final, the leader of the delegation from SPOCS Consulting, Mr. Gbenga Agbejoye expressed delight at the discovery of young talents from the 2025 edition of the Asaba Super Cup. Agbejoye also eulogized Mr. Elo Adhekpukoli for supporting the Asaba Super Cup 2025 by ensuring that the tournament was held successfully.
The competition’s curtain drawer was an avenue for FunZ, a growing digital and innovative platform offering ticketing services for sports events, who gave out free gifts to fans during the Final Match on Wednesday, March 5th, 2025.
The Asaba Super Cup which provided a platform for several youngsters in the country and across the African continent to shone like a million stars also saw Winsome FC walloping African Holding FC by 3 goals to 1, to finish the tournament as the 3rd best placed team. According to the organizers, the next edition of the competition will hold in March 2026.
