Anambra High Court sitting in Awka, has arraigned three suspects over the alleged missing estate Vice Chairman of Dubai Estate Awka, Benjamin Ezenma (a.k.a Big Ben).
The suspects were accused of alleged kidnap of the Vice chairman of Dubai Estate Awka on 12th November 2024.
When the case was called upon, the three suspects arraigned before the High Court presided over by Justice Oke Ogu, pleaded not guilty to the two count charges brought against them by the court.
Meanwhile, the presiding judge later adjourned the case to March 7, 2025 for hearing.
The three suspects arraigned before the High Court sitting in Awka, Anambra State on Thursday pleaded not guilty to the two count charge brought against them by the court.
The suspects were accused of alleged kidnap of the Vice chairman of Dubai Estate Awka on 12th November 2024.
Two of the suspects, Mr. Toochukwu Nwokoye Nwosu and David Chukwuemeka Chukwunonso who are the second and third defendants in the suit with number AWK/6c/2025 were arrested and detained at the Correctional Center in Awka over alleged kidnap of Mr. Benjamin Ezenma.
The first defendant, Mr. Jeff Ezechukwu Nweke was granted bail on self-recognition by the Department of State Services (DSS).
When the charges were read to the trio who were present in court before presiding judge, Justice Oke Ogu, they pleaded not guilty to the charge of kidnap.
The prosecution counsel, P. N Ofpma who is also a deputy director in the State Ministry of Justice, had presented the case which is between the state and the defendants.
Justice Oke Ogu, had after listening to the arguments of Mr. Alex Egesieme, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Counsel to the 1st defendant (Mr. Jeff Nweke) and counsels to the second and third defendants, adjourned the case to March 7, 2025 for hearing of the case.
The court had also deferred the bail applications for the second and third defendants to March 2nd, 4th and 30th respectively.
However Justice Ike Ogu further ordered that two of the defendants be allowed to return home, while Tochukwu Nwokoye be remanded in the custody of the Correctional Center Awka.
