UNIZIK Makes History, Becomes First Nigerian University To Win WTO Chair Programme

Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka has made history as the first Nigerian university to win the prestigious World Trade Organization (WTO) Chair Programme.

The award, valued at 200,000 Swiss Francs (approximately 34.1 million naira), was presented to the institution in recognition of its commitment to advancing academic activities related to trade in developing and least-developed countries.

The Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph I. Ikechebelu, FAMedS and Prof. Ngozi Egbuna, Director International Center for Regional Integration and Trade Research (ICRITR), UNIZIK joined the Honourable Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment to receive the prize.

The WTO Chairs Programme is a global capacity-building initiative aimed at enhancing trade-related research, teaching, and outreach.

This milestone places Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka at the forefront of academic excellence and innovation in trade studies.
