The Senate of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka has eulogized the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, Directorates of University Education and other critical stakeholders for their timely intervention in the Vice-Chancellorship Election Saga in the institution which led to the dissolution of the 10th Governing Council.
The commendation was made on the floor of the 228th Senate Meeting of the institution held on Wednesday, 27th November 2024 at the University auditorium.
In his remarks, Prof. Richard Uwakwe eulogized the Visitor, His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa and other education stakeholders who in his words ensured sanity was restored in the institution named after the Great ZIK of Africa regarding the controversial process that led to the appointment of a substantive Vice-Chancellor and Registrar by the dissolved 10th Governing Council. Prof. Uwakwe on the floor of the senate moved a motion for a standing ovation to commend their timely intervention.
In the same vein, Prof. Austin Nonyelu also eulogized some members of the teaching staff, professors and senior colleagues for showing courage and standing tall by challenging the dissolved 10th Governing Council led by Amb. Greg Mbadiwe through court action for their controversial decisions in the process of electing a substantive Vice-Chancellor and Registrar for the institution.
The Federal Government through the Ministry of Education had on Wednesday, 20th November 2024 dissolved the Amb. Greg Mbadiwe’s led 10th Governing Council and revoked the appointments of a Substantive Vice-Chancellor and Substantive Registrar for the University.
The FG had since then confirmed the appointment of Prof. Joseph Ifeanyichukwu Ikechebelu as Acting Vice-Chancellor and Mr. Victor Modebelu as Acting Registrar pending the re-constitution of a new Governing Council for the University.
This is great step in the right direction. Thank you Mr President and all stakeholders..
However, also painful and pitiful is the state of the unpaid staff of the institution since 2019, please we are begging that the President should also intervene and put smiles on our faces, life has really dealt us a blow with this issue and we would love that we get paid and smile like other staff..Thank you
