A Non governmental organization, KNCV dedicated to the fight against tuberculosis and other diseases of public health concern, organized their Quarter Three 2024 DPH Coordination Meeting in Awka.
During the meeting, it reviewed some of the challenges of their last meeting with partners which include SACA, SAWOR, HGCSO, IPCD, AHNI, NEPHWAN.
Addressing participants drawn from different organisations, the chairman and Director of Public Health in Anambra State, Dr Afam Anaeme expressed satisfaction with the level of progress made so far by different organisations, while being optimistic of collaborative results from its outreaches through their CBO’s.
Also he welcomed the NACA team from Abuja to the State and called on them to feel free to give their accessibility report from the State so far.
Dr Anaeme emphasized on the urgent need for their partners to brace up to filling up the gaps in the distribution process of test kits as well as increase the Monitoring and Evaluation officers in LGAs in the state for maximum efficiency.
He encouraged the CBOs to always ensure that they are timely in reporting data from their outreaches and other engagements, stating that there is need for retraining of the monitoring and evaluation officers in the LGAs and Assessment meetings with the directors, which he noted will help in enhanced distribution process of drugs within the state.
In his own contribution,the State Technical Officer of KNCV, Mr Precious Ilueme stated that the work plan should be strengthened to achieve it’s desired goals.
He explained that the global fund Grant Cycle 7 is a combination of TB and HIV in which the CBOs engage in house to house outreached on mondays since majority of the people stay at home on the day, due to the sit at home order.
Mr Ilueme highlighted different roles of the stakeholders with different incentives, enumerating the KNCV score cards thus: the Cascade Analysis from July 2024 to September 2024 from private sector only indicates that Aguata LGA has the highest proportion of facilities reporting 83percent of TB cases while Nnewi North with the lowest percentage of 8.
He outlined some of their challenges to include Dormant PPM sites, inadequate mentoring in some centers, among others.
“All these not withstanding, KNCV was able to test 1,142 pregnant women while 15 who tested positive were administered adequate treatment and 14 linked to care and treatment commenced”,
He stated that KNCV is poised to continue engaging people until maximum results were achieved.
Mr Chima Asomba of SAWOR, Dr Onyeka Ugwu, the state team lead of AHNI, Mr John Bosco Ementa of SACA, and Dr Chike Ezeanya all lent their voices in proffering solutions to some of the listed challenges faced by CBOs which includes lack of working tools, unavailability of test kits, lack of dual test kits for pregnant women, non availability of HIV test kits among others.
