The President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Gusau, has assured that the lower leagues will experience significant improvements in the 2025/26 season.

He gave the assurance while speaking at the  2024 Seminar for NNL, NLO and Women Football League Match Commissioners held at Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba.

The President who was represented by Mallam Rabiu Shara Ahlan, Chairman of the Kano State Football Association highlighted the challenges facing the lower leagues, including the number of teams and funding.

He appealed to corporate sponsors to partner with the league, emphasizing the NFF’s commitment to improving the leagues.

“The NFF is working tirelessly to improve the leagues. You will agree with me that the officiating and organization of the league have improved,” Ahlan said. “Second-division teams have challenged premier league teams, with three second-division teams qualifying for the last four stage and even participating in the CAF Confederation Cup.”

He urged Match Commissioners to maintain professionalism, adhere to the dress code, and remember that they represent the NFF while commissioning matches.

The NFF South-South Match Commissioners Coordinator and former Delta State FA Chairman, Chief Ken Nwoamucha, who hosted the event, commended the NFF Committee members and Match Commissioners who participated in the seminar, titled “Match Commissioning and the Challenges of Match Reporting.”
