The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Ambassador Greg Mbadiwe, on behalf of the institution’s Council, has reaffirmed his dedication to contributing significantly to the institution’s growth and development.

He made this commitment on Friday, during a courtesy visit to HRM Igwe Peter Anugwu, the traditional ruler of Mbaukwu.

Amb. Mbadiwe disclosed that Mbaukwu holds personal significance for him, not only as the host of the university’s Pre-Science unit but also due to its deep connection to his family’s history.

He emphasized that the visit underscores the importance the university places on traditional institutions, especially in areas where its campuses and premises are located.

Reflecting on his late father’s strong bond with Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, after whom the university is named, Amb. Mbadiwe spoke fondly of their relationship.

“My father was one of the biggest disciples of Zik,” he disclosed. “Coming to Nnamdi Azikiwe University is especially significant for me because it is the university of my father’s mentor”,

“When I was appointed Pro-Chancellor, His Majesty was the first to send me a congratulatory message, and you have always treated me like a son.”

Elated at the warmth and support he has received, Amb. Mbadiwe expressed his deep connection to the community of Mbaukwu.

“This place is my home, and I am proud of my heritage here. I am beyond convinced that I will do everything in my power to bring development to Unizik because of these significant ties”,

“It feels like a homecoming I never anticipated, and I’m honoured to be reunited with my family here, especially the Odum family.”

The Council Chairman promised to give his utmost effort to advancing the university, including the Pre-Science unit in Mbaukwu.

Receiving the entourage with his cabinet members, Igwe Anugwu commended the University Council, led by its Chairman, for deeming it fit to strengthen its relationship with the community.

The traditional ruler also announced the donation of a building within his palace as an endowment for a befitting ICT library for the Pre-Science unit.

In the entourage included the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Carol Arinze-Umobi; the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Joseph Ikechebelu; the Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Very Rev. Fr. Prof. Peter Agbonome; and Council members, including Hon. Augustine Onyedebelu, Engr. Amiolemen Abraham Osahon, Hon. Oladejo AbdulHafiz Olakunle, Prof. P.V.C. Okoye, Rev. Fr. Prof. Kenneth Oraegbunam, Prof. Tracie Utoh-Ezeajugh, Engr. Dr. Paul Okolie, Engr. Ikechukwu Onwuemene, and Hon. Ndubuisi Nwobu. Also in the team were the Acting Registrar, Rev. Sam Ufoh, and the University Librarian, Prof. Stella Anasi, among others.
