Ademola Lookman has been widely favoured to be the next CAF Player of the Year after Victor Osimhen, but Moroccan fans are pushing for Real Madrid midfielder Brahim Diaz to be considered for the top award ahead of the Super Eagles star.

Diaz scored for Morocco to dump Gabon 4-1 at home, before he came off the bench to score a stoppage time winner for the Atlas Lions to beat Lesotho.

His late winner against Lesotho was magical as he dribbled past two defenders to make hay for Morocco to stay top of Group B with six points.

Ademola Lookman in AFCON qualifying series scored a brace against Benin, while his first-half effort against Rwanda in Kigali was ruled out by the referee.

He scored an unforgettable hat-trick for Atalanta to win a historic UEFA Europa League after his goals helped the Super Eagles to reach the 2023 AFCON final in February.
