In what looks like an all underdogs finals but promises to serve a scintillating football, the Ifeanyi Ekwueme TICO/SELECT Preseason Tournament will climax tomorrow (30th August) at the Abakaliki stadium without the big names.
The 6th edition of the Tournament has continued to leave up to it’s billing with surprising features and results as in the past.
This was very evident on Thursday in the semifinal encounters decided at the Pa Ngele Stadium, Abakaliki as Enugu based Great Achievers FC defeated defending champions, Abia Warriors FC of Umuahia with a solitary strike scored at the 90th minutes to silence the NPFL side.
The giant killers, Great Achievers FC who ply their trade in the Nation Wide League One played a resilient style of football frustrating the much experienced 2024 President Federation Cup Runners up before capitalizing on a defensive mix up to nick the only goal of the very thrilling encounter.
Earlier in the first semifinal between Enyimba FC and Apex Krane FC, both sides refused to be separated during the the normal time as Apex exerted their superiority in the gamble of lottery of penalties winning 3 -1 after the Elephant boys failed to convert their first three kicks.
Apex Krane will meet Great Achievers on Friday by 3pm for the brand new trophy as both sides are expected to appear in a brand new set of SELECT branded Jersey’s.
Among other fun fare would be the presentation of individual awards such as Most Valuable Player of the tournament, Best Keeper among others.
