A new Student Union Government (SUG) for Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka will emerge on Friday, 23rd August 2024.
This revelation was contained in a memo made public by the Students’ Affairs Department dated Friday, 9th August 2024 and endorsed by the new Dean, Professor Makodi Biereenu-Nnabugwu.
The memo with the heading reads, “REVISED SUG ELECTION TIME TABLE FOR 2023/24 ACADEMIC SESSION.” According to the body of the memo, Sale of Forms and Submission of Forms started since 13th June 2024 with screening of applicants holding from Monday, 12th to Wednesday, 14th August 2024.
Shortlisting of qualified candidates and lifting of Ban on campaign is on Wednesday, 14th August 2024. The SUG Judiciary Election, SUG Senate Election and Manifesto presentation will hold on Monday (19th August 2024), Wednesday (21st August 2024) and Thursday (22nd August 2024) respectively with campaign expected to end on Midnight of Thursday, 22nd August, 2024 while SUG Elections and result declaration will hold on Friday, 23rd August 2024.
According to the guidelines for the SUG Executive Elections, only bona fide students with CGPA of 3.00 are eligible to vie for posts at the upcoming SUG Elections with completed applicant’s forms endorsed by their parents and guardians as contained in the student’s record.
The memo also disclosed that no motorcades would be allowed during the electioneering exercises while posters are meant to be in white and black, endorsed by the candidates and posted at designated places. It also disclosed that defaulters of the guidelines, election time-table and other relevant regulations in the election shall be disqualified.
