……Excesses Of Our “Men Of God”

By Sampson Anezu

These servants of God were very vocal when PDP was in power. Look up and see the front page cover of the NATION Newspaper of August, 15, 2010 and that of August 7, 2016. In one of these papers, Pastor Enoch Adeboye was insisting on transparent electoral process and good governance while Father Ejike Mbaka was defending incompetent Buhari and APC. In 2015, Mbaka glaringly endorsed, supported the coming of Muhammadu Buhari and other political bandits that ruined this country. What was the economic situation in Nigeria before 2015 ? What were
the prices of a litre of fuel, food stuffs and exchange rate of Naira under Goodluck Jonathan whom loquacious Father Ejike Mbaka re-baptised Badluck Jonathan.

Now, we rarely hear the thunderous voices of these our men of God including Pastor Tunde Bakare and others. They are now like silenced flutes and trumpets
For too long, we have been focusing on the excesses of our politicians and public administrators that it would seem as if we have forgotten that there is yet another serious source of worry for the Nigerian society that has been plagued by some uncanny quantum of falsehood, deceit, manipulation ,avarice and other forms of abuses both personal and institutional.

It is a historical fact that one of the key realms of the ancient estates of Europe was the church. In fact, the church was so powerful in these States of Europe that it was a logical expectation that it would also have to go alongside the other estates of the realm when the revolution that turned Europe from divine monarchies to people’s democracies took place in the 19th Century.

Power, whether secular or temporal could be easily abused in an environment in which the social structure is imperiled by clueless leadership, poverty and other socio-economic vices.Today in Nigeria, factories and warehouses are giving way to churches, miracle retailing outfits and other places of worship. The point here is that most societies naturally turn to religion and other media for the supernatural when the physical conditions represented by hunger, disease and ignorance overwhelm them.
With power grabbers and visionless leaders, no one can doubt there is unprecedented hardship in Nigeria these days and that fact alone sufficiently explains the explosion, mushrooming in ecclesiastical merchandising which the practitioners and managers would call the ” business of God”. Church business has become very viable and people troop to any business that is reputed to be bringing quick money. Church is rewarding many now.One does not need any feasibility study or business plan to ascertain this fact as some of our men of God are stunningly rich in a way that makes it doubtful if they still have eye on heaven as they are booming in paradise here on earth.

Certainly, God is real and there are still righteous men of God who are not dancing the tune of our corrupt leaders, they are not materialistic or tribalistic. They are equally doing very good spiritual jobs at saving souls and turning them away from their previous evil ways, the same godly way our Lord, Jesus Christ traversed and He healed spiritual and physical
ailments of many .

Essentially, in this calamitous situation that enveloped our country since 2015 it has become morally imperative that once again, we deserve to hear the voices of those our religious leaders that called and also supported political change in our landscape nine years ago.
