The University Management has commenced the renovation of hostels starting from the Stella Okoli Hostel, following an unscheduled visit by the Acting Vice Chancellor, Professor Carol Arinze Umobi, on Friday, 2nd August 2024. The prompt initiation of this project underscores the Acting Vice-Chancellor’s commitment to enhancing student living conditions on campus.

During her visit, Professor Umobi expressed her dedication to ensuring that students have access to safe, comfortable, and conducive living environments.

The renovation efforts are being led by a team from the Works Department, headed by Engineer Kelvin Kanayo of the Electrical Unit. The team is conducting a comprehensive inspection of the hostel, focusing on identifying and rectifying electrical faults, repairing carpentry issues related to fans, lighting points, and windows, and ensuring that all facilities are brought up to standard.

During the inspection, Engineer Kanayo emphasized the importance of the renovations, noting that the project aims to address both immediate safety concerns and long-term infrastructure improvements.

The renovation has been met with gratitude from the students. Mrs. Christy Onuora, the hostel’s portress, speaking on behalf of the students, expressed her appreciation to the Acting Vice Chancellor and the university management. “This renovation is a welcome development that will greatly improve the comfort and well-being of the students. It will also help to foster a stronger sense of community within the hostel and contribute to an overall better student experience,” she said.

The Stella Okoli Hostel renovation is part of a broader initiative by the acting VC’s administration to upgrade campus facilities and ensure that the institution remains a leading center of learning and development. The Acting Vice-Chancellor Chancellor has assured students that similar projects will be undertaken across other hostels and facilities in the university, as part of a continuous effort to improve campus life.

Also, following the passionate request from the students for free internet services, the Acting Vice-Chancellor has initiated efforts for the provision of free Wi-Fi across the hostels. The project is expected to be completed before the end of August, 2024.
