The Imo State Football Association mourns the demise of Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, who was a pillar of sports in the state and beyond.

The chairman of Imo Football Association, Barr Ifeanyi Dike in a statement signed by Angela Nkwo-Akpolu, said that the FA is pained that Iwuanyanwu’s demise occurred at a time he provided excellent leadership to Ndigbo and was needed most.

“No doubt, Iwuanyanwu Nationale which metamorphosed into Heartland FC inscribed Imo state in the sands of time with excellent football and career for the players”,

“The late elder statesman personally played critical roles in the protection of lives and helped hundreds of people build amazing careers in the media, football, engineering, and several other sectors”,

“Imo FA will miss his large heart and indelible interventions in football issues and fatherly wisdom”,

“His commitment to promoting football and sports generally was no doubt excellent and worth emulating as he provided exceptional leadership in all facets yet simultaneously”,

“We are consoled by the fact that Chief Iwuanyanwu distinguished himself in philanthropy, politics, business, engineering, and sports where he helped to promote hundreds of people”,

“While we extend our deepest condolences to the Iwuanyanwu family, Ndigbo, and Nigerians as a whole, we urge everyone to be consoled that the elder statesman did his best and pray for the repose of his soul”, he said
