The PreScience Unit of Nnamdi Azikiwe University led by the Director, Professor Edith Nwankwo on Wednesday, 10th July 2024 paid a courtesy visit to the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Joseph Ikechebelu.
The visit according to the Director of the Unit was to felicitate with the new institution’s Sheriff and to intimate him about the program of the unit, academic activities for the current session and seek his approval for the upcoming Orientation programme scheduled for August 15th 2024.
Prof. Nwankwo in her remarks said the unit has already keyed into the “BLESSED UNIZIK” vision of the acting Vice-Chancellor in their quest to be the best outlet for remedial and preparatory programme that will ensure the academic success of students that enrolled for the Pre-Science Programme. The PreScience Director informed that already academic activities have commenced at Mbaukwu, the base of the institution’s PreScience programme, with students already receiving their lectures even as admission for new intake continues.
Prof. Nwankwo also informed the Acting VC about the upcoming Orientation programme seeking for his approval and physical presence to grace the occasion as well as have a feel of the level of work done at the PreScience centre and the challenges faced by the unit ranging from getting more students to audit the programme and adequate water supply at the base. She congratulated Prof. Ikechebelu for his appointment while pledging the unit’s support to his administration.
Responding, UNIZIK Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Ikechebelu thanked the Unit for the visit and the support to his administration. The Ag. VC stated that his administration is poised towards embarking on renovation works which includes the perimeter fencing of the PreScience base and ensuring that there is adequate water supply for the students.
Prof. Ikechebelu advised the unit to think about exploring online services for the PreScience programme which could be hybrid as this can attract a lot of students who can enroll for the program online by taking their lectures virtually and only appearing physically at the PreScience base for examination. The scholar stated that his administration can make arrangement for LMS system to enhance the proposed hybrid programme which will draw a lot of followership.
Prof. Ikechebelu thanked the unit for keying into his vision and HPS Squared Concept of ensuring ‘Happy Productive Staff’ and ‘Happy Progressive Students’. He assured the unit of his presence during the orientation programme.
Also present during the visit were the Deputy Director of the Unit, Dr. Njideka Mgbeledogu; Deputy Registrar, Mrs Rita Orjiakor and ICT Officers – Mrs Nkechi Onyeyili and Mrs Chisom Odibo.
