The Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Joseph I. Ikechebelu, has announced that his administration will be anchored on inclusiveness, embracing all individuals regardless of religion, tribe, gender, or disability.

Professor Ikechebelu made this commitment during the Tech4All Training Program for individuals living with disabilities, organized by the IEEE Society in collaboration with MICTU.

In his address to the participants, Professor Ikechebelu praised their engagement and stated that during his tenure as Acting Vice-Chancellor, he is dedicated to fostering an environment of inclusivity and non-discrimination. He emphasized the importance of skill development and digital competence, describing the programme as a commendable initiative by MICTU’s software unit.

“No matter your background, connecting with digital technology can greatly enhance your knowledge and opportunities,” Professor Ikechebelu noted. He congratulated the organizers for extending this valuable training to those with physical challenges, reinforcing that his administration is committed to offering equal opportunities to all at UNIZIK.

“Knowledge must be applied. Utilize what you learn here, build on it, and continuously seek to improve your skills,” he urged. “Under my leadership, we will strive to enrich the lives of our students through positive initiatives.”

The Guest speaker, Professor Williams Obiozor highlighted the ongoing challenge for educators to provide effective technology and accommodations for disabled students and staff. He encouraged trainees to fully leverage the knowledge they gained from the programme.

Dr. Azubuike Aniedu, the programme convener, praised the participants’ dedication and enthusiasm as they explored the exciting world of technology. He noted that the hands-on training provided them with essential digital tools to navigate the evolving digital landscape.

The event climaxed in the presentation of laptops and certificates of merit to outstanding participants.
