ANSSI 2024: Washington Memorial Grammar School Onitsha Emerge Champions In Male And Female Volleyball Events

Washington Memorial Grammar School Onitsha have emerged champions of the Male and Female Volleyball event of the ongoing State Finals of the Anambra School Sports Festival.

Washington showcased their supremacy by seeing off Bubendorf Memorial Grammar School Adazi-Nnukwu in both the Male Under-14 and Under-18 categories grand finale while also seeing off seeing off Cor Maria Secondary School Nkpor and Rosa Mystica College Agulu in the Female Under-14 and Under-18 categories respectively to claim the gold medals.

Nnewi High School settled for the bronze medal in the Volleyball Male Under-14 same with Don Bosco Secondary School Obosi who finished as second runners-up in the male Under-18 category. Christ Secondary School Osumenyi came third in the Female Under-14 while St. Kizito Secondary School Umudioka also finished third to earn a podium finish for the Under-18 female category.

In Track and Field, over 70 student-athletes are featuring in the 100 metres event for boys with the first round concluded on Wednesday, 5th of June 2024 which was the day two of the State Finals as other track and field events such as Javelin, Discus, Shotput, High Jump and Triple Jump events are expected to be concluded on the Day 3 at the Awka City Stadium.

Scrabble, Chess and Ayo board games will continue on Thursday at the Alex Ekwueme Square while Taekwondo and Karate will also go on at same venue to determine the champions at the end of the Day 3 of the State Finals.

More than 780 schools are featuring in the 2024 event of the ongoing Anambra School Sports Festival, an initiative of Hon. Patrick Estate Onyedum, Chairman of the Anambra State Sports Development Commission (ASSDC).
