Over two hundred Youths of Ojoto community in Idemili South Local Government Area on Tuesday,9th April protested against the outcome of the election which took place during the weekend.
News Echo gathered that the election which was held at the community Square did not go well as the office of the Vice President and Secretary were not contested as the candidates were disqualified without any cogent reason.
Addressing newsmen, President,Ojoto Ebenasato Union,Youth Wing,Mr Samuel Mbanefo said that the town Zonal election that was held on the 6th of April which was last Saturday was totally not accepted by the youths.
The issue of the Secretary and Vice President was selection and not election and the youths of Ojoto said no,that “we need free and fair election.
He noted that Comrade Chinedu Mokwe and Izukwu Mojekwu for Vice President and for Secretary respectively didn’t commit any crime rather they are qualified to contest for the positions and be elected.
Chukwudi Emmanuel Emeraba, from Umuezema,Ojoto maintained that this is not the way elections are done in our community.
You cannot impose your decision on us. This is the first time we are experiencing this in Ojoto. We have been doing this election for years and there is no way this one will be different. To me,I love the agitation of youths and it’s unfortunate that our illustrious son is no more,in the person of Agunaechemba, late Sen.Anny Okonkwo. When he was alive we have not heard such and that will not even happen, but we believe things will get better.
However,Nonso Anazodo (Ex Officio),Maduaburochukwu Nnoruka(Provost 1),Hon.Afoma Ubakaeze(TC Councilor), confirmed that the manner in which the election was conducted is unacceptable by the youths of the community.
While Chukwudi Emeraba Emmanuel, and Uchenna Agwuncha pleaded with Soludo and Igwe Dr. Gerald Mbamalu to intervene and conduct a new election where the interest of the qualified candidates are to be considered.
Efforts to reach the President General of ASATU,Barr.Pius Akpudo for reactions proved abortive as of time of filing this report.
