A stray dog allegedly scavenging for food in the bush of Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State has retrieved a baby boy abandoned in the bush.

Information has it that the baby has been in the bush for two days tied in a plastic bag before he was discovered by the the dog.

According to a source, the stray dog carried the infant across a busy road and kept it at public glare apparently for passersby to pick baby up for rehabilitation.

The source said, “The dog found the baby in a plastic bag in which he was abandoned in the forest.

“From what we saw the baby may have been abandoned in the forest for about two days before the dog discovered it.

“The baby is doing well; he is stable, the source told our correspondent.

A trending video online showed some women believed to be local midwives cleaning the baby, while condemning the perpetrators of the heinous crime.

The women and a male voice doing the video wondered how someone would carry a baby for nine months, only to throw such child away.

While thanking God for saving the baby from being devoured by animals, they implored perpetrators of such act to handover babies in such circumstances to people to take care of instead of throwing them away.

Efforts to reach the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Tochukwu Ikenga failed at the time of filling this report as his mobile line could not be reached
