The Head of Awka Capital Territory Development Control Unit Mr. Charles Ekwunife, on Friday said that the team successfully demolished the premises of illegal occupant in “shanty town” along the Enugu-Onitsha old road in Agu-Awka,, Anambra State.
He said that the demolition of the criminal hideout and hub of illicit drug revealed a substantial stock of various illicit drugs, and the evacuation of all residents.
According to Ekwunife, the move was to reinforce the importance of swift and resolute actions in maintaining the safety and well-being of urban spaces.
He explained that the raid was carried out following a rapid expansion of the said criminal hideout and illicit activities taking place in the area.
The ACTDA boss stated that the demolition not only signifies a crucial step towards restoring sanity and order in the capital city, but also reflects the proactive measures taken by ACTDA to address pressing community concerns.
Speaking to journalists, some residents who spoke on condition of anonymity expressed their satisfaction with ACTDA’s actions.
While commending the authority for restoring sanity in the state, the excited residents who expressed relief underscored the persistent challenges posed by the criminal hub and welcomed the intervention.
They further thanked Soludo Government for coming to their rescue, even as they recounted instances of house burglary, unchecked invasion by cows in the area and robbery.
