Nnamdi Azikiwe University has accepted to host the South East University Games Association Athletics and Martial Arts Invitationals.

This was disclosed by the Vice Chancellor Prof Charles Esimone at the closing ceremony of the just concluded South East University Games hosted by UNIZIK.

According to the sports loving Vice Chancellor, he accepted to host the Invitationals following the successful hosting of the concluded South East University Games which was a week long event of convivial atmosphere.

He assured that the tournament will come before the end of May and serve as a launching pad for the university’s newly constructed standard running track surface.

Prof Esimone said that the SEUGA Local Organizing Committee will laiase with South East University Games Council to come up with budget and other preparatory plans to ensure a successful tournament.

Earlier, the Acting President SEUGA, Dr Felix Obikwu while thanking the Vice Chancellor for his passionate commitment to the success of the game in an Oliver Twist style appealed to him to host the Invitationals.

According to him, the Invitationals will give athletes in athletics and Martial Arts the opportunity they did not have during the Games.

He also said that he wants SEUGA to be the first to enjoy the new track surface which he said the best in the South East.

Dr Obikwu thanked the Vice Chancellor for giving UNIZIK athletics athletes such quality running surface.

Nnamdi Azikiwe University emerged champions of the weeklong games with 19 gold, nine silver and seven bronze medals.
