The Nnamdi Azikiwe University female Volleyball team once again took the lane of what looks like retaliation to redeem the image of the volleyball family of University as they trounce Federal University of Technology Owerri 3-1 in the finals.

Recall that FUTO male team earlier in the day humbled UNIZIK male team same 3-1 in the first semi finals.

The girls in their retaliative mood went into the court and paid the FUTO girls in their boys coin.

Though FUTO girls began the game with a borrowed confidence ending the first set 25-20, they seemed lost in the last three sets characterized by weak spike, poor defense, poor service, wrong rotation etc which opened the door wide for a three straight routing of 25-6, 25-12 and 25-18 by the UNIZIK girls.

Speaking to Newspathfinder after the game, captain of UNIZIK team, Francisca Ogumelu (Aishat) who could not contend her excitement thanked her team mates for their efforts and determination.

“I am super excited. We did it to the glory of God. Our boys could get the gold but we were able to do it. The gold is for the volleyball family of the University. Their boys get mind beat our boys. We couldn’t take and decided to take out our anger on their girls”,

“This is a retaliation game. Right from the semi finals we refuse to let the family down. ESUT boys defeated our boys 3-0, we beat their girls same 3-0. Today again FUTO defeated our boys 3-1 and we told them that we will take out the anger on their girls and we beat them 3-1”,

“I am proud of my girls and our boys for their support. UNIZIK volleyball family has been supportive and we appreciate immensely”, she said.

In the second male semi finals played earlier in the day, Imo State University defeated Enugu State University of Technology in a heated game that ended 3-2.

Finals of the male event between Federal University of Technology Owerri and Imo State University will be played tomorrow after the third place match between UNIZIK and ESUT at the Volleyball Court near GS building.
