Ifitedunu UNIZIK Students holds Induction Ceremony, Honours Pillars Of Education

History was made on Saturday, 25th November 2023 as Ifitedunu Student Union Association (ISUA) Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka held her Induction Ceremony.

The event held at the Chukies Centre UNIZIK with the theme,” Academic Excellence, Pathway to Greatness,” had scholars of Ifitedunu origin who are staff of the institution in attendance to interact with the students.

In his remarks, the Guest Speaker and current Head, Department of Statistics UNIZIK, Prof. Happiness Obiora-Ilouno who spoke on the topic, “The Secret of Academic Excellence”, advised students to remain persistent and steadfast in their academic pursuit by eschewing any form of distraction.

The scholar averred that education is key to societal growth and development which is why UNESCO promulgated the release of 30 percent of the appropriation bill of any nation to education.

She highlighted the efficacy of prayers as there are underlying forces that can distort and hinder ones academic endeavour.

Speaking on the topic, “University Rules and Regulations based on GAR and Career Development”, another speaker and current Deputy Director, Centre for Counselling and Career Development UNIZIK, Pharm. Dr. Chika Abba called on the students to remain focused on the essence of being in the institution which is to study and graduate with good grades.

The scholar reminded them that they have a short stay in the Ivory tower and should make the best of the opportunity.

In his remarks, the staff adviser of the association and immediate past Chairman, Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) UNIZIK Chapter, Comrade Stephen Ufoaroh called on the union executives to see the association as a collective responsibility geared towards the success and welfare of the student’s of Ifitedunu in school and not a personal venture.

Prof Ufoaroh re-echoed the need for students to focus on their studies as an educated and empowered youth is an empowered nation. The union leader pledged his support towards the growth and progress of the association and his willingness to assist students in tackling any form of challenge during their academic pursuit.

On his part, a lawmaker and former Chief Whip of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Chief Dr. Lawrence Ezeudu pledged his support to the association in ensuring that the students have a memorable stay in the institution. Chief Ezeudu said he will institutionalize acts such as payments of tuition fees and lend support towards their welfare as students of UNIZIK.

Also speaking, the President of the association, Comrade Stanley Ebuka Nwoye informed that the body came into existence through the hardwork and tireless efforts of their mentor, Comrade Prof. Stephen Uchenna Ufearoh and other members of his executives. Comrade Nwoye stated that his EXCO were able to organize, coordinate and register the body as a legitimate association to the school management.

The student leader encouraged his fellow students to approach their studies with passion and determination as the University is not just a place of learning but a hub of ideas, innovation and personal growth. He admonished them to take advantage of the resources and opportunities around you, and always remember that every challenge they encounter is an opportunity to learn and develop themselves.

Re-echoing the views of other speakers, the international coordinator of Ifitedunu Professionals and a Lecturer at Bowie State University and Montgomery College, USA, Prof. Ben Arah highlighted the importance of hardwork emphasizing that there is dignity in labour.

Prof. Arah opined that financial challenge should not be an excuse for a student who has the willingness and zeal to excel. He promised to support the association in ensuring they attain their set goals and objectives.

Highpoints of the occasion was award presentations to pillars of education in Ifitedunu Community. Recipients of the awards were the former Chief Whip at the Anambra State House of Assembly (ASHIA), Chief Lawrence Ezeudu; Director of Budget (Presidency), Pastor Ben Akabueze who was represented by his younger brother, Mr. Onyeka Akabueze; Prince (Engr) Sir Godfrey Chudie Obinabo who was represented by the immediate past President of Ifitedunu Community, Chief Samuel Nweke; Chief Chukwuneke Debiaezue and Chief Ezeana Obiora Debiaezue whose awards were received by Hon. Chigbo Dibiaezue.
