The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Anambra chapter has congratulated Patrick Estate Onyedum on his appointment as chairman of Anambra State Sports Development Commission (ASSDC).
The Association in a statement signed by the state chairman, Tony Oji and Secretary, Patrick Anaso respectively described Onyedum’s appointment as a square peg in a square hole because he possesses a rich pedigree as an athlete and sports administrator.
The statement partly read, “It is instructive to note that he did not only take part in active sports, he is at the moment, chairman of Chairman Anambra State Athletics Association (AAA) and Southeast representatives in Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) at a time.
“Onyedum as a former transition chairman of Anaocha Local Government Area organised the annual Anaocha Athletics Championship for secondary schools in the area where young athletes were discovered for grooming.
“SWAN Anambra Chapter is convinced that, armed with these records, Onyedum will turn the fortunes of Anambra Sports for good as the chairman of the commission.”
SWAN expressed its readiness to partner with administration in promoting his activities and also to provide positive critiquing in the overall interest of Anambra athletes sporting community.
It also thanked the state Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo for the appointment, even while urging him to give the new management under Onyedum all the political and financial support it needs to succeed.
