The newly constituted caretaker committee Executive, Nteje Development Union (NDU) today Saturday, 23rd July 2022 held her first general meeting to hit the ground running as regards the mandate and terms of reference, given to them by the state government.
In his opening remarks, the president general of Nteje Development Union, Chief Obika Chidiebele (Omenive Aborgu), thanked Anambra State Governor, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo for finding him and his caretaker committee members worthy to serve in that capacity.
Chief Obika stated that the committee will do everything possible to achieve peace in the community and reconcile warring factions that exist in some villages and quarters.
The Secretary of Nteje Vocational Association who spoke on behalf of all the Religious in the community, Rev. Fr. Vincent Abanago said that development can only be achieved where there’s peace and love; he stressed the need for every agrieved group to bury their hatchet and support the new administration to achieve their aim for the common good of their people.
Engr. Chinedu Orakwue, Chairman, Nteje Development Union – Lagos branch who spoke on behalf of all the state branches, thanked the state government for her choice of the caretaker committee members whom he described as thorough breeds that will take Nteje community out from Egypt and pledged the unalloyed support of the All the branches to the caretaker committee for the greater good of Ndi Nteje.
On his part, Ichie Christopher Anaegboke (Ebekuedike Nteje) who spoke on behalf of Ndi Ichie Nteje, said that they will support any move that will foster development to the town and urged parents to take parenthood serious which he observed would help reduce youth restiveness in the town.
Speaking to the press after the meeting, the duo of Pharm. Onyeka Obi, former APGA House of Assembly aspirant for Oyi state constituency 2022 and Mrs. Nkachukwu Mmelikam, president general, NDU women wing home and abroad, affirmed their trust and believe on the members of caretaker committee in solving the numerous problems currently facing the community and urged the entire Nteje people, to rally round the committee members which would help prosper their town.
Recall that the state government, in her quest to resolve crisis in Nteje, on 29th June, 2022 appointed a nine-man caretaker committee to:
1. Reconcile different factions in the community
2. Put in place, a structure that will ensure and sustain a peaceful coexistence in the community
3. Prepare ground and conduct a credible Nteje Development Union election.
The meeting was attended by representatives of state branches of NDU, Nteje Vocational Association, Ojiana Nteje, Ndi Ichie Nteje, NDU women wing, Native Doctors in Nteje, all the denominational churches in Nteje among others.
