The President, Nigeria Weightlifting Federation, NWF, Dr Ibrahim Abdul is in Albania to participate in the ongoing two-day International Weightlifting Federation, (IWF) Congress.
This was made known through a press release signed by the media officer, Nigeria Weightlifting Federation, Amechi Agbo.
The physical congress, first in recent times, will elect new President, General-Secretary as well as the new Executive Board of the IWF.
The two-day Electoral Congress will hold from June 25 to 26.
Speaking on the importance of his attendance, Dr Abdul said that it was critical for the NWF to be fully respresented at the IWF Congress.
He noted that under his administration, weightlifting will be on the front burner both locally and globally.
“It is important that I attended the Congress. The IWF member federations have been meeting virtually leading to this physical congress. It will afford NWF great propensity to get involved in international weightlifting activities”,
“My aim, apart from the welfare of our athletes, is to ensure that Nigeria weightlifting is on the front burner both at local and global stage”.
“Besides, it is an a venue for all federations presidents to gather, cross-fertilise ideas and collaborate for the development of the game in our various countries,” he said.
A total of 11 candidates with two US Americans are contesting for the post of President, 16 for General-Secretary while 33 are vying for the posts of Vice Presidents.
