Defending Champions, De Wilson FC of Okpuno were forced to play a barren draw against Peace FC of Awka in the opening fixture of the Awka South Football League Season Two.
The season two of the Awka South Football League which is a grassroot football initiative and programme of the Awka South Local Football Council under the leadership of Comrade Chekwube Ofili (Senior Man) kicked off on Sunday, 10th September 2023 with five matches.
Ten clubs are featuring in the season two of the Awka South Football League which is an improvement to the six clubs who featured in the maiden season of the football fiesta.
Champions, De Wilson FC of Okpuno will fight to retain their trophy against Fortune FC of Awka, Umuawulu United FC, PJP FC of Okpuno, Dynamite FC of Nibo, 3 Block FC of Amawbia, New Saints FC of Awka, Peace FC of Awka, Amawbia United and Dynamic FC of Awka.
According to the Chairman of the Main Organizing Committee (MOC), Chief Anayo Obiakor (Opia), a total of 90 matches will be played in the season two which will last for a period of six months from September 2023 to March 2024.
In results of other matches, Fortune FC walloped New Saints FC 4-0, Umuawulu United FC versus Dynamic FC ended 2-2, PJP FC scored a late goal to secure a 2-1 win against Dynamite FC while 3 Block FC saw off Amawbia United FC by a lone goal.
