Members of the Sports Writers’ Association of Nigeria, SWAN, Nasarawa State Chapter, were on Friday, taken on a tour of various sporting facilities within the Lafia City Stadium.
The exercise which was led by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Jafaru Ango, accompanied by the Organisation’s Permanent Secretary, Chief Barr. Isaac Danladi, and Director of Facilities and Stadium Management, Yusuf Ahmad, was to enable the journalists observe the progress of works at the various facilities and quell the negative perception being spread across the public domain.
It was also to afford the sports writers the opportunity to appraise the success stories of the Governor Abdullahi Sule-led administration in the area of sports and infrastructural development.
Among the facilities toured included the football pitch which has already been installed with new artificial turf, the new Hockey pitch whose job’s progress is at 75 percent completion stage as the Contractor, Reform Sports West Africa, assured of its completion by the second week of September, 2023, and the Basketball, Tennis, Handball and Volleyball Courts.
After the visit, the Commissioner briefed the journalists on Government’s plans and poise to overhaul all sporting infrastructures across the State to provide a conducive and convenient environment for sports men and women to explore their potentials.
He added that the Sule administration upholds transparency and must be accountable to the electorate and would continue to do so to build trust and confidence in the administration.
Lending his view, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry Barr Isaac Danladi opined that the State Government is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that Nasarawa State becomes the home of sports in Nigeria as the administration of Governor Abdullahi Sule places high premium on the youth and sports sector.
