Team Anambra contingent made up of athletes and officials have arrived Enugu for the South East zonal eliminations for the 7th National Youth Games (NYG) which holds from Friday, 11th to Sunday, 13th August, 2023.
Team Anambra, comprising of 78 athletes and 24 officials, which includes coaches, technical and medical staff, left Awka on Friday morning after a short briefing from the Chairman, Anambra State Sports Development Commission (ASSDC), Patrick Estate Onyedum at the Commission’s office.
Team Anambra are expected to feature in six team sports comprising of Football (male), Basketball (Male), Beach Volleyball (Male and Female), Cricket (Male), Handball (Male), Rugby (Female) and Volleyball (Male and Female).
In his address, Chief Patrick Estate Onyedum, Chairman ASSDC admonished the team to put in their best performance in ensuring that Team Anambra feature in all the team sports come September during the upcoming National Youth Games program to be hosted by Delta State.
The Anambra Sports Boss also urged the athletes to be of good behaviour and make discipline and hardwork their watchword during the course of their stay in Enugu for the zonal eliminations.
“We are going to Enugu to feature at the zonal eliminations which is the passcode for the upcoming seventh National Youth Games coming up next month in Delta State. You are lucky to be part of this contingent and I want you to make the best of the opportunity by ensuring that all the team sports we registered for will feature at the youth games.
“This can only be achieved by finishing tops in your various events. As an ambassador of our dear state, we expect you to be focused on the task before you by being disciplined, committed and adhering to instructions from your coaches. I wish you all the very best and may God be with you as you work towards achieving success at the games,” Onyedum submitted.
The team delegation is led by the Director of Sports, Madam Faith Okwonna alongside Director of Sports (Technical), Emeka Obidinma. Other top members of the delegation are Hon. John Ezebuadi (SA to the Governor on Sports), Mrs Ngozi Nwegwu (Chief Matron), Chika Aka (Team Instructor/Commander), Olu Sule (Sports Consultant) and Chijioke Onyedika (Former Secretary, Anambra State Football Association).
