As the 18th All Nigeria Editors Conference of the Nigeria Guild of Editors enters day two, organizers of the event have moved the venue to the Conference Hall of RockView Hotel, Owerri, from Imo Concorde Hotel.
This followed the inability of the Imo Concorde Hotel which hosted the opening ceremony to offer expected services during the program as clearly manifested during the event.
Mr Iyobosa Uwugiaren, Secretary of Nigeria Guild of Editors announced the decision to change the conference’s venue towards the end of yesterday’s program.
He lamented that apart from the hotel’s failure in offering steady power supply during the program, it couldn’t provide water for members of the Guild lodging in the hotel.
Our Correspondent who was at the conference venue yesterday noted that the most embarrassing of the several lowly situations was power outage that occured shortly after Gov. Hope Uzodimma and his entourage settled down for the opening ceremony.
Though it was restored long after the governor settled with the embarrassment which also raised fear among participants and guests at the occasion, the power issue continued even after the governor left.
Former President General Ohaneze Worldwide, Chief Nnia Nwodo on two occasions during his speech had to speak without microphone due to power outage.
Announcing the new venue of the conference, officials of the Guild in a WhatsApp message sent to some of the guild members’ group chats later in the night read: ” Dear Colleagues, the venue of the 18th All Nigeria Editors Conference has been moved to the Conference Hall of RockView Hotel, Owerri. The program has not changed.
We wish to tender unreserved apology for the inconvenience the change may have caused you”.
The Conference is ongoing at the new venue with the first presentation by National Security Adviser, General Babagana Monguno. His paper “What Editors Need To Know is being presented by Mr Zakari Usman, Head Strategic Communications.
Second session for the day will have the Chairman Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof Mahmood Yakubu present a paper titled “Preparation For 2023 General Election: How Far, How Well”.
The third session to be chaired by General Manager/Editor -In-Chief, Vanguard Group, Prince Gbenga Adefaye, will have invited governors and CEOs of Public/Private Sectors as Discussants.
