Nigeria recorded a double victory over Rwanda in an international walking football bilateral encounter held on Saturday at the Eagles Club, Adeniran Ogunsanya Street, Surulere, Lagos.
The back-to-back wins highlighted Nigeria’s technical superiority and tactical discipline in the fast-growing non-contact sport.
Chairman of the Organising Committee, Mojeed Adegbindin, popularly known as “Eshin”, described the event as a landmark for sports development and African unity.
“What we achieved at the Eagles Club was more than just winning two football matches; it was a grand celebration of health, longevity and African solidarity. Beating a strong and disciplined Rwandan side in both matches shows the immense talent and determination within our squad,” Adegbindin said.
He noted that walking football is creating new opportunities for veterans and sports enthusiasts to remain active while competing at a high level.
“Walking football is opening up new avenues for veterans and mature sports lovers to stay active while competing at the highest level. To host Rwanda here in Lagos and secure two victories is a dream outcome,” he added.
The atmosphere at the venue was vibrant, with fans, sports dignitaries and ex-internationals in attendance. Nigeria dominated the first match with precise short passing and disciplined defending, while in the second encounter, the hosts withstood Rwanda’s tactical adjustments to complete the sweep.
The successful hosting of the showcase further reinforces Lagos’ status as a hub for sports innovation in West Africa.
