The National Institute for Sports (NIS) has introduced a technology-driven certificate verification system to enhance the credibility and security of its qualifications.
The initiative was announced by the Director-General of the Institute, Philip Shaibu, in the presence of Nigeria Football Federation Technical Director, Augustine Eguavoen.
The new system will feature scannable technology on NIS certificates, enabling employers and institutions to verify their authenticity digitally from any part of the world.
Shaibu said the development will make verification faster, easier and more reliable, while also addressing challenges of forgery and boosting international recognition of NIS certificates.
He added that the system covers both new and old certificates, meaning past graduates and coaches will also be able to have their qualifications verified digitally.
According to him, the move is part of broad reforms aimed at modernising the Institute, strengthening transparency and improving confidence in its academic and professional programmes.
The DG noted that the innovation will be especially beneficial to sports professionals seeking opportunities outside Nigeria, where verification of credentials is critical.
The Institute said the initiative aligns with its vision of becoming a globally competitive centre for sports education and coach development.
