The Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Institute for Sports, Comrade Philip Shaibu, was among dignitaries who attended a requiem mass at the Catholic Church of the Assumption, Asokoro, Abuja, to pay their last respects to the late Daniel Osikheme Orbih.

The service was held on Tuesday as family, friends, and associates gathered to honour the late politician, businessman and philatelist.

Comrade Shaibu, the immediate past Deputy Governor of Edo State, described the late Dan Orbih as a man of great conviction, generosity and service to humanity.

He noted that Orbih’s contributions to politics, business and community development in Edo State and Nigeria at large will remain indelible.

The NIS DG prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul and for God to grant the family the fortitude to bear the loss.

Daniel Osikheme Orbih was born on 27th October 1961 and passed away on 31st August 2026.

He was widely respected for his commitment to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, where he served in various leadership capacities, and for his philanthropic works across Edo State.

His passion for history and stamp collection also earned him recognition as one of Nigeria’s notable philatelists.

According to the burial arrangements released by the family, the late Dan Orbih will be laid to rest at his country home in *Ogbona, Etsako Central Local Government Area of Edo State*, on Saturday 10th October 2026.

Final funeral rites are expected to draw political leaders, business associates, and well-wishers from across the country.

Other dignitaries at the requiem mass included chieftains of the PDP, traditional rulers, captains of industry, and members of the diplomatic community. Tributes poured in, with speakers describing Orbih as a bridge-builder, a loyal party man, and a philanthropist who touched many lives through his benevolence and counsel.

The atmosphere at the Church of the Assumption was solemn but reflective of a life well lived. Clerics urged mourners to emulate Dan Orbih’s legacies of service, integrity and love for community. As he commences his last journey home, family members expressed appreciation for the outpouring of support and solidarity from Nigerians across all walks of life.
