After eight remarkable years at the helm of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), Musa Kida has officially signalled the end of his tenure, declaring himself deeply fulfilled by his administration’s achievements.

Speaking at the grand finale of the 2026 Zenith Bank Women’s Basketball League, Kida expressed immense pride in the foundation he has laid, while challenging his eventual successor to build upon the progress recorded during his stewardship.

Kida’s valedictory remarks were delivered against the backdrop of an electrifying championship decider, where MFM Basketball Club narrowly edged out perennial contenders, the First Bank Elephant Girls, 66–64. The tense, down-to-the-wire encounter served as a perfect testament to the growth, competitiveness, and high standards of women’s basketball in Nigeria under his watch.

“I really feel fulfilled. The finals were well represented,” Kida stated after witnessing the keenly contested match. “After eight years, I am leaving so fulfilled. The next person will definitely do better, but I think we have set a good pace for the federation.”

Reflecting on his two-term reign as the nation’s top basketball administrator, Kida emphasized his pride in contributing to the sport’s development across the country.

“I have done my own bit. I am very proud of what we have done,” he noted.

However, he was quick to deflect the spotlight from himself, stressing that the future of Nigerian basketball must remain a collective effort rather than a one-man show. As the NBBF prepares for a leadership transition, Kida issued a clear challenge to anyone aspiring to take over the reins.

“Nigerian basketball is not all about me; it’s about us all,” he urged. “We need to ask anybody who wants to lead us to tell us his or her plans for the federation.”

As the curtains draw on Kida’s eight-year era, his parting message leaves a clear mandate for the incoming leadership: the work must continue, fresh visions must be introduced, and the new administration must elevate the game even further from the solid foundation already established.
