The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has unveiled a new national team competition structure, introducing the African Nations League to replace the African Nations Championship.

Here is the new structure:

*African Nations League (Continental)*: Played annually, starting with regional zones, and featuring all eligible players, including Europe-based stars. The best teams will qualify for a final tournament hosted in one country.

*African Nations League (Pan-African)*: Held every two years, with a format similar to the Africa Cup of Nations, featuring 24 teams.

*Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON)*: Now played every four years, becoming Africa’s elite, flagship competition.

CAF President Patrice Motsepe emphasized that these changes aim to promote world-class football, increase competitiveness, and provide more opportunities for African players.

The Africa Cup of Nations will expand to 28 teams, and the new African Nations League will offer more regular competitive fixtures for national teams.
