Bayelsa, Ogun Shine At Gov Diri Wrestling Classics

Bayelsa and Ogun states took top honors on Day 3 of the Governor Douye Diri National Wrestling Classics.

Both teams won two gold medals each at the ongoing 4th Governor Douye Diri Wrestling Classics in Yenagoa on Friday, March 28.

Iniekpoebi Godfrey defeated Ebievin Odubukeme (Dynamite Club) to secure gold in the 44kg men’s freestyle (U15), while Righteous Amudukur beat Zikenah Woyinlayefa (Dynamite Club) in the 48kg category.

In the 29kg U15 girls’ category, Rokebat Monlowolowo (Ogun State) overcame Mercy Andrew (Ngobere Club), while Oreoluwa Akindipe (Ogun State) defeated Regina Ebisuode (Dynamite Club).

Dynamite Club secured a gold medal in the 36kg U15 girls’ category through Profit Bestman, Cross River claimed gold in the 39kg U15, while Oke Tobi (Rivers) won gold in the 42kg U15 girls’ event.

Speaking with journalists after her victory, Oreoluwa Akindipe expressed gratitude to her parents and coach.

“I want to thank my parents for allowing me to come for this competition. I also appreciate my coach for believing in me and pushing me to give my best.”

The Men’s Greco-Roman category commences today, March 28 at the indoor sports hall of Samson Siasia Sports Complex in Yenegoa.
