The Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Dr Law Mefor, has stressed the need for public servants to be hardworking and dedicated to their jobs in order to reach the peak of their careers and retire meritoriously.

Speaking at a grand send-off held to celebrate the immediate past Director of News and Current Affairs, Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS), Mrs Juddy-Jeff Nwabueze, who bowed out of service after 35 years of service, Mefor maintained that being professional is also important for one to successfully serve and retire honourably.

According to him, being a public servant is not easy as one’s opinion, no matter how wonderful, does not matter as he must reflect the position of government, its policies and programs.

He extolled Mrs Nwabueze’s achievements and legacies, even as he thanked God for giving her grace to retire in good health. He urged her not to abandon the institution that nurtured and gave her the platform to make her mark.

“In life, we pray to make our stay in every opportunity given to us sublime; to leave our footprints in sands of time. That’s what I sincerely believe she has accomplished.

“For you who are still in service, emulate her. If you are ever in doubt of reaching the peak of your career and leaving graciously, look at the process she passed, and the way she did it. Try to do the much you can. With God, you will reach there and retire meritoriously,” he said.

The Managing Director of ABS, Mr Chris Molokwu, in his remarks, said they were sending her off with mixed feelings, and thanked God and the News Department, for their roles in putting up the send off, even as he urged them to apply the team spirit in the discharge of their duties.

In her remarks, Mrs Nwabueze expressed joy and gratitude for the honour given to her and prayed for unity and cooperation among ABS staff.
