The sponsor of the Emmanuel Okeke Memorial Nanka Inter Village Football Tournament, Dr. Charity Nwosu-Okeke, has revealed that the tournament holds a special place in her heart as a living tribute to her late husband.

According to her, the tournament is not just a sporting event, but a celebration of the core values that her husband, Emmanuel Okeke, lived by, including commitment, teamwork, unity, and love for others.

Speaking to Newspathfinder during the finals of the 2026 Emmanuel Okeke Memorial Nanka Inter Village Football Tournament held at Neros Stadium, Nanka, Dr. Nwosu-Okeke stated that her late husband saw football as more than just a game, but as a language that fosters discipline, purpose, and togetherness.

She explained that her strong belief in the values that football represents, including unity, love, and opportunity, inspired her to venture into sponsoring the tournament.

The tournament sponsor emphasized that the initiative was not just about organizing a competition, but about immortalizing her husband’s ideals and giving young people a platform to discover their potential, build confidence, and develop essential life skills.

According to her, the tournament represents unity, brotherhood, and development, and she envisions a future where it will grow into a celebrated platform that inspires hope, nurtures young talents, and unites communities.

“It would stand as a legacy of teamwork, discipline, and positive change that will inspire generations to come,” Dr. Nwosu-Okeke said, expressing her commitment to continue sponsoring the tournament as long as God permits.

She urged the football-playing youths of Nanka to remain focused, noting that the game has the capacity to help them achieve their individual goals.

Dr. Nwosu-Okeke’s sentiments underscore the impact that the tournament has had on the Nanka community, and the potential it holds for future generations.

As the tournament continues to grow and attract more support and engagements, it is expected to remain a testament to the enduring legacy of Emmanuel Okeke and the values that he stood for.
