Abdulmumin Jimoh has emerged as a prominent figure in African scrabble. Following his victory at ScrabbleMania 3.0 in Monrovia, his performance has garnered significant attention within the sport.

President of the Pan African Scrabble Association (PANASA), Adekoyejo Adegbesan, has urged stakeholders across the continent to throw their full weight behind Africa’s rising word warriors.

“This is the moment,” Adegbesan said. “These players are peaking. If we support them now, the future of African scrabble is secure.”

Jimoh’s 2025 form backs the hype. Title after title has fallen his way, and Adegbesan believes the trajectory is clear. “He has won almost everything there is to win this year. If he continues this way, nobody can stop him from becoming the next African champion.”

That dream now sharpens its focus on the African Scrabble Championship, Liberia 2026—the biggest scrabble event on the continent.

Billed as “A Gathering of Africa’s Finest Word Warriors,” the championship is expected to attract about 150 players from 15 countries, turning Monrovia into Africa’s mind-sport capital.

Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroon, Kenya, Uganda, Sierra Leone, Gambia, Zambia, South Africa, Mauritius, Tanzania, Botswana, Rwanda, Zimbabwe and host Liberia are to grace Africa’s most finest moments.

Jimoh won’t be alone in the spotlight. Oluwatimilehin Doko, his teammate at the Gateway Scrabble Club, arrives as the defending champion, setting up a mouth-watering intra-club rivalry that could define the tournament.

Players will start arriving on the October 18th, with the opening ceremony set for October 21st. The championship runs from October 22nd to 25th, while the PANASA Annual General Meeting takes place on October 24, underscoring the event’s weight beyond the board.

To cater for the influx, top hotels including Colony Hotel, Kings Hotel, Maryland Guest House, Scarlett Apartment and A’Lagune have been reserved for players, officials and delegates.

Online registration opened November 1, 2025, with fees covering tournament entry, meals, customized souvenirs and even a raffle ticket for free registration.

As Africa’s best sharpen their vocabularies and strategies, one thing is lucid and vivid, with young guns like Jimoh leading the charge, African scrabble isn’t just growing—it’s gearing up for a golden era.

The Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Ministerial Complex located in Congo Town, Monrovia, along the major Tubman Boulevard is the iconic venue for the rebirth of African Scrabble.
