Sheikhandam FC clinched the 2025 Gwagwalada Football League title over the weekend, defeating defending champions Ejiwumi FC 2–1 in a thrilling final.

The victory avenged Sheikhandam FC’s defeat to the same opponents in the 2024 edition, adding extra significance to their triumph in front of a large and enthusiastic crowd.

The final began on a cautious note, with both sides showing respect for each other. Ejiwumi FC drew first blood in the 15th minute after converting a well-taken penalty to take the lead. Sheikhandam FC responded later in the half, earning a penalty of their own. Although the first attempt was missed, a retake was calmly converted, ensuring both teams went into the break level.

The decisive moment came at the tail end of the encounter when Sheikhandam FC found the winning goal, sparking wild celebrations among their supporters and sealing a memorable comeback victory.

The high-profile encounter attracted football stakeholders and politicians from across the Federal Capital Territory, with a mammoth crowd witnessing the final showdown.

A major highlight of the event was the presentation of special awards, including one to former President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Alhaji Sani Lulu Abdullahi, Mr Olushola Ogunnowo who is also the Chief Operating Officer of the Nigeria Nationwide League was awarded also. An award for the current NFF President Ibrahim Gusau was announced and is scheduled to be presented at a later date.

Several individual honours were also handed out, supported by Prostar International. Ibrahim Suleiman of Sheikhandam FC emerged as the Highest Goal Scorer of the tournament, while Mohammed Abdullahi (Kekere), also of Sheikhandam FC, was named Most Valuable Player. Abraham Omiere of Ejiwumi FC won the Best Coach award, while Joshua Edijana of Medical Strikers Feeders was recognised as the Best Goalkeeper.

In addition, African Coaches Connect used the occasion to recognise its Nigerian Coordinator, Patrick Ngwaogu (Odogwu), and presented a special award for Best Behaved Coach to Olukayode Gbenga of Inspiration Sports FC.

The 2025 Gwagwalada Football League final lived up to expectations, delivering drama, quality football, and a fitting celebration of grassroots talent.
