The curtain-raiser of the 2025/2026 Nigeria National League (NNL) season promises fireworks as Basira FC host Mighty Jets of Jos in the much-anticipated opening fixture to be broadcast live on NYSC Radio 88.3 FM Abuja. The encounter is scheduled for Saturday, November 8, 2025, at the Lafia City Stadium, with kickoff set for 3:00 PM.
Originally slated for the McCarthy Stadium in Makurdi, the fixture was relocated to Lafia after the former failed to meet facility standards set by the league organizers.
According to Emmanuel Attah, Chief Executive Officer of the NNL, the decision was made to ensure the league upholds its quality and professionalism.
“This encounter will mark the beginning of another chapter in the nation’s second-tier league, which is the Most Important League in Nigeria,” Attah stated. “We expect a large turnout given the passionate fan base of both teams from the North Central region.”
Attah further confirmed that in addition to the live radio broadcast, the match will be streamed online by Sports Light Hub, the league’s official broadcast partner.
The opening fixture, a Conference C matchup, will also carry added motivation for both sides, as the winner will earn the Bet Power Locker Room Winning Bonus of ₦56,000 — the first of the season’s incentives.
Basira FC, managed by veteran tactician Aminu Musa, will aim to make a bold statement in front of their home fans. Meanwhile, Ere Dokubo’s Mighty Jets, one of the country’s historic football institutions, are equally determined to begin their campaign on a winning note as both sides chase the sole promotion ticket from Conference C.
With a total of 382 matches scheduled for the 2025/2026 NNL season, Saturday’s opener is set to set the tone for months of intense competition, drama, and excitement across the nation’s most competitive football division.
